Business Reading & Writing

This class is designed to help students improve English business vocabulary by reading about some of the most successful business leaders of our time, practicing TOEIC readings and creating various business documents. 

 

Students will learn how to draft documents useful in a business setting.  The writing tasks will focus on brainstorming, editing, revising and producing a final copy.

 

Each business document will be presented in a scenario format where the student will have to write an appropriate document for each situation. Some of the key documents students will learn are:

 

  • A formal email to a CEO of a company.

  • A business letter giving an overview of a company.

  • A letter of complaint and the response.

  • A marketing plan for a new product.

  • A letter of inquiry about a service provided.

  • A cover letter introducing yourself and your intent.

  • A resume displaying work experience and skills.

  • Interview questions that may be asked for a certain job and appropriate responses to the questions.

 

Business vocabulary, formal written language and structure will be taught so the students will develop an understanding of how to respond in writing to a wide variety of business situations.

 

Students will improve their business English vocabulary by reading about successful entrepreneurs like Donald Trump, Oprah Winfrey and Lee Byung Chul.   In addition, students will read TOEIC passages designed to help them improve their TOEIC reading scores.
